FAQs

Many couples have questions before they sign up for class. Here are a few of the most common questions asked.

When should I plan on starting the HypnoBirthing® class?

You should plan on attending between your 20-25th week of pregnancy. That way, you have approximately 10 weeks or more to practice. If you are beyond the 25th week of pregnancy, you can still take the class, but you will just have to be sure to practice frequently.

Can my husband/father of the baby/mother/sister/friend attend the classes with me?

HypnoBirthing® is very Birth Companion friendly. Many women attend with one Birth Companion. If you would like to have a second Birth Companion attend, that is okay as well. If the second Birth Companion would like the HypnoBirthing® book, he/she would be able to purchase it from Pauline.

Will my birth be pain free with HypnoBirthing?

Maybe yes, Maybe no. It depends on each individual. There are many HypnoBirthing® moms that state that they did not have any discomfort whatsoever. Other HypnoBirthing® moms state that they did feel pain, but what they felt was considered “very little pain” or “mildly uncomfortable”.

Will I be able to remember the birth of my baby?

Yes! Hypnosis is a state of focused concentration, so you will be focusing on relaxation and be aware of everything that is going on around you. You will be aware of your birth companion and medical care providers helping or talking to you, and you will be able to respond, if you choose.

How will I know HypnoBirthing® will work for me?

The first HypnoBirthing® baby was born in 1990. Since that time, HypnoBirthing® has grown throughout the United States and into Canada, Europe, Australia, China, and many other countries. HypnoBirthing® has grown so rapidly because it does work. Research studies have revealed that Hypnosis during pregnancy, labor and birth has many positive benefits for the mom and baby. (see + benefits of HB, and HB stories). There are 4 things that you can do that will help to ensure your success with HypnoBirthing.

  1. Expect it to work.
  2. Believe it will work.
  3. Visualize or imagine it working.
  4. Practice the hypnosis techniques learned. (practice is easy, enjoyable and fun!)

Will I be in control of my birthing?

Absolutely! You are in complete control when you are in a state of hypnosis. You will be able to move, talk, and keep your eyes open or closed. Women who have utilized HypnoBirthing® state that they have greater trust in themselves, greater self confidence, and a greater sense of belonging and security before, during and after the birth of the baby.

Do I need to purchase anything ahead of time?

No, Pauline will have the supplies you will need at the beginning of the series.

Should I bring anything to class?

Please bring water, juice and snacks for you and your birth companion to munch on during class. I do not expect you to sit through 2 ½ hours of class and be hungry or thirsty. The furniture in the room is comfortable, and pillows and blankets are available. Dress comfortably and dress lightly or in layers. The room tends to warm up once the class starts.
